The Clore Gallery forms the wing of the Tate Britain in London that houses the Turner Bequest--oils, watercolors, sketchbooks, and documents related to Joseph Mallord William Turner. Next month many of the works of art normally on view there will travel to the United States as part of a major exhibition devoted to Turner, which will be at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C., from October 1 to January 6, 2008, and subsequently at the Dallas Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This has left a large gap at the Clore Gallery, which has led the Tate to organize an extensive survey of some 165 of Turner's watercolors that are normally in storage.
