In 221 BC the king of Qin, later Qin shi huang, unified various warring states into the country we now know as China. Known as the first emperor, he created an impressive military machine; presided over the standardization of currency, script, weights and measures; and instigated the construction of the Great Wall.

Normal practice at the time was to bury important people with all the workers and equipment they would require in the next life.
