SINGAPORE'S TOTAL EMPLOYMENT RISES TO RECORD HIGH IN Q2

SINGAPORE - Singapore's total employment rose to a record quarterly high of 64,400 in the second quarter of 2007, marked by a drop in jobless rates and higher wages, the Ministry of Manpower said on Friday.

The all-time high employment growth in the second quarter surpassed the increase of 49,400 in the first quarter of this year and 36,400 in the second quarter of 2006, the Ministry said in a statement.

THAI PM REASSURES INVESTORS ECONOMY TO GROW 4.5% IN 2007

BANGKOK - Despite a decline in Thailand's exports due to a sluggish global economy, the country's economy is projected to grow between 4 to 4.5 per cent this year, while government spending and investment by state enterprises are expected to continue rising, Prime Minister Gen. Surayud Chulanont said Wednesday.

Gen. Surayud told more than 270 local and foreign investors attending the Third Thailand Focus that his interim government continued to support tourism and projected that about 14. 8 million tourists would visit Thailand in 2007.

STH KOREA'S EFFORTS TO HOST 2012 EVENT IMPRESS EXPO ORGANIZATION

SEOUL - South Korea succeeded in drawing keen attention to its aspiration to host the 2012 international expo, during a two-day symposium in Seoul intended to promote its efforts to hold the event, a top official of the expo's governing body said Friday.
