The jeweler's playthings
I'm always looking to turn unexpected things into jewelry. When I was growing up in Louisburg, North Carolina, my mom would take me to upholstery shops where she'd dress up all of her country-auction finds. I'd hang out with the trims and tassels there, so that's where my first idea for tassel earrings and necklaces came from. Then last fall, when it was time for me to get out my knitting needles, I started thinking about how I could knit bracelets. I ended up wrapping bangles in cashmere, alpaca, and Donegal tweed. There are feathers and buttons in my collection, too, and next I'm doing rings made out of dollhouse miniatures. It's my first foray into surrealism.
