The West Feliciana (La.) Port Commission is hoping a closing paper mill adjacent to its property will result in free land and a jolt to its campaign to attract more industry and develop a container port, The Baton Rouge Advocate reported.
Port Director Roger Richard has asked Tembec Inc., the mill's owner, to grant the port 100 acres of land where the mill operates. Richard is also seeking a two-year deal to negotiate the potential purchase of another 400 acres.
