Sep. 11--DURHAM -- Sometime between a bomb threat and a school's effort to usher some 1,600 students safely home, a seemingly under-control situation at Northern High School went very wrong.
Eight students were arrested, three were taken to the hospital and 15 more were treated at the scene Monday afternoon after "several" fights broke out on the school's football field, according to emergency medical personnel and law enforcement officials.
The student body had been evacuated to the field Monday morning after someone called 911 and reported a bomb in the school. The students were under the supervision of teachers, counselors and School Resource Officers when the row began.
