A gateway to world news
' site review
Born out of an EU-backed initiative, the European Media Monitor (EMM) news website has two main sections: NewsExplorer, a powerful multilingual portal with more than one trick up its sleeve; and NewsBrief, its broader, but no less complex, sister service.
Updated every 10 minutes from around the globe, it's difficult to know where to begin with EMM. This is a big and sometimes complex information source. Having used EMM daily for over two weeks now, I still don't feel I have uncovered every aspect of it.
World news
EMM works by compiling summaries of stories from across the web, which are clustered together and ranked depending on the number of articles that have been produced for a particular topic or language. The information is automatically cross-referenced with related items, such as people, policies and country. There are direct links to the original content offsite, and you also get the opportunity to explore a particular item in a different context or in comparison to other related news items.
