KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara, Sept 3 Asia Pulse - Marhavv Group Israel has earmarked US$700 million to set up jatropha curcas plantations in Kupang district, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), a spokesman said.

"We will invest the money in jatropha plantations and other related activities to produce bio-diesel fuels," Merhavv Group Israel President Director Gideon Weinstein said during a coordination meeting with Kupang district head Ibrahim Agustinus Medah here on Friday.

On the occasion, Weinstein was accompanied by Jacques Eshel and Yosef Ziv, other executives of Merhavv Group Isreal, and officials of PT Manhattan Capital comprising Sudiro Andiwiguna, Setiawan Sudei, Muhammad Ansor and Herman Ndoen.

Jakarta-based PT Manhattan Capital is a national company partnering Merhavv Group Israel in the development of bio-diesel energy sources such as jatropha.

The Israel-based company representatives said amid intensive efforts by the world to develop alternative energy sources, Merhavv Group Israel was also actively involved in the opening of jatropha plantations.
