SEOUL, Sept 3 Asia Pulse - Sales by small neighborhood grocery stores and shops fell for a fifth straight month in July as they lost customers to large discount outlets and convenience stores, a government report said Monday.
The National Statistical Office (NSO) said sales at stores with floor space of less than 165 square meters dropped 5.1 per cent year-on-year in the month, continuing a decline since March after a 7.6 rise in February.
In the same month, sales at large discount outlets rose 5.2 per cent on-year, while those for convenient stores and big supermarkets gained 12.1 per cent and 3.7 per cent respectively, the state agency said.
