SYDNEY, Sept 3 Asia Pulse - The Australian sharemarket started the week in full stride, after US President George Bush and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke reassured US investors they would work to rectify recent market troubles.
At 1015 AEST, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index had gained 32.7 points to 6279.9 and the all ordinaries had added 33.9 points to 6282.2.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the September share price index contract had climbed 25 points to 6286 on a volume of 4,584 contracts.
US stocks surged on Friday as President Bush and Dr Bernanke reassured investors they would do what was needed to shelter the economy from the subprime mortgage turmoil.
Dr Bernanke said the Fed would not bail out investors who had made mistakes, but overall his comments reinforced the view that the Fed will cut interest rates at its meeting on September ...
