What does it take to have a good and lasting marriage? How about a marriage that has endured for more than three-quarters of a century?
Dr. Chester and Mrs. Eva Brisley can shed light on this question based on their own personal experience.
Eva and Chester (known as Chet) met when they were both 16 at the Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. They got married one week after graduation, on June 19, 1932. The country was in the midst of the Great Depression, and the teenage couple did not have any material possessions to speak of, not even a car. But they did have an abiding faith in God. Chet fondly recalls that "Eva had only one question for me before deciding I was alright to get serious with, 'Are you sure you know the Lord?'" Chet, like Eva, was a believer. In fact, when he became infatuated with Eva, he purchased a New Testament for her and delivered it to her on his bicycle two days before Christmas, 1930.
