THE FAILED Medical Training Application Service (MTAS) website cost the taxpayer [pounds sterling]1.9m, Hospital Doctor has learnt.
The DoH has confirmed that the [pounds sterling]1.9m sum included the development costs paid to two commercial parties, as well as the running of the website in 2006-07.
The developers were the Nottingham-based Work Psy-chology Partnership, which designed the person specification and scoring system, and Methods Consulting, an IT firm which supplied the now defunct MTAS website. Methods Consulting's website says the firm is separately working with the NHS in 'developing information governance requirements' for
the National Care Records Service.
Last month, the BMA's annual conference passed a motion calling for an independent investigation to be carried out into the true cost of introducing MTAS. The BMA wants the review to be undertaken by the National Audit Office. The BMA's call parallels the Hospital Doctor campaign for an independent inquiry into the economic effects of MTAS.
