Aug. 12--MIRAMAR BEACH -- A ruined public beach access will soon be new and improved.

Work is slated to start in November on a $4 million project to rebuild the parking lot on Scenic Gulf Drive near Pompano Joe's Restaurant.

The lot has been unusable since Hurricane Dennis washed it out more than two years ago.

Construction should be complete by late spring.

The Walton County Tourist Development Council plans to build 130 parking spaces supported by concrete pilings that will prevent the asphalt from washing out in another storm.

The old parking lot was built on top of sand and had 100 spaces. …
