Better Hair
Strand Aid
No, you aren't in the wrong drugstore aisle -- more and more skin-care ingredients are showing up in hair products. Both L'Oreal Paris Color Vive Pro Conditioning Treatment and Clairol Natural Instincts Shine Happy are now loaded with antioxidants like vitamins C and E to protect against color-fading free radicals. Jan Marini Age Intervention Hair Revitalizing Conditioner promises retinol will turn back the signs of aging (like dry scalp and thinning strands). And Alterna Haircare's new Ten line claims to lock in moisture using the same hyaluronic acid found in wrinkle fillers. "Vitamins C and E will help prevent dullness, and retinol can improve scalp condition and promote hair growth," says cosmetic chemist Ni'Kita Wilson.
"But unless your hair is severely damaged, the hyaluronic-acid molecules are too large to penetrate the cuticle." Bottom Line: The products gave our hair a healthy sheen. -- JESSICA B. MATLIN
