PepsiCo, one of the world's largest food and beverage companies operating in more than 200 countries, was among several businesses to support the Declaration launched today at the United Nations calling for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. Indra Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, supported the Declaration, which was announced by UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and urged the private sector to join with governments, civil society and faith groups to work together toward meeting the MDGs. The Goals were established by the United Nations in 2000 to work toward improving the lives of the world's most impoverished citizens, and include eradication of extreme hunger and poverty, promotion of gender equality, and ensuring environmental sustainability.
