Insurer readies ax, but who gets cut? State Farm to use many factors to decide who will be dropped.

For example, in Sarasota County, particularly in the city of Sarasota, the new homeowner policy exclusion zone cuts a potentially wide swath because of Sarasota Bay's big bulge into downtown.

"In Sarasota, the windpool, as described by the state, includes just about all of the city," said State Farm spokesman Chris Neal.

The Sarasota County portion of Longboat Key, Lido Key, Bird Key, Siesta Key, Casey Key and the island of Venice also are most likely affected.
