"Sustaining and retaining the nursing workforce: a shared plan of action" was the title of a conference session led by NZNO chief executive (CEO) Geoff Annals, director of nursing (DON) and midwifery at West Coast District Health Board (DHB) Jane O'Malley and Ministry of Health chief nursing adviser Mark Jones. The aim was to outline the way in which consensus was achieved between NZNO, the DHBs and the Ministry of Health on staffing shortages, the safe staffing unit model that was developed; and the plan for its implementation in DHBs.
