An increase in oocyte donation from poorer to more affluent countries creates a number of ethical issues. Transnational oocyte donation can result in cost savings, shorten waiting lists and solve the shortage of donor eggs in Western countries. However, there is concern that donors in less affluent countries (especially students) may be "willing" but might be motivated into donating oocytes in exchange for financial reward.
