FORT WORTH, Texas _ State District Judge Wayne Salvant said Wednesday that he will not rush into deciding whether 16 men will be allowed to testify at the child molestation trial of former Olympic diving judge Wirt Norris.
At the end of a three-day pretrial hearing that included allegations of abuse going back nearly 50 years, the judge quizzed prosecutors on the admissibility of evidence on crimes that go beyond the statute of limitations.
Norris, 77, is charged with molesting two youths in 1987 and 1995. A former prominent real estate agent and diving coach, Norris denies abusing anyone.
"This is an extremely important decision I have to make," Salvant said, after ordering prosecutors and defense attorneys to submit legal briefs supporting their arguments about the testimony.
