The just-finished 32nd edition of the match racing series brought a lot us who care about racing to our feet as spinnakers tore, penalty turns had to be made and the winning margin in the deciding race was one second. What brought about all the excitement was evenly matched sailboats.

The interesting variable came down to the ability of the crews on New Zealand and Alinghi to handle the challenges handed them by changing wind directions, a difference in wind speed at different places on the course and the tactics thrown at each respective boat by the other.

The human factor made the racing marvelously interesting.
