The EU is pressing ahead with plans for co-ordinating European research even as the consultation rumbles on over its green paper, The European Research Area: New Perspectives.
Online consultation for the green paper closes at the end of August. But the competitiveness (internal market, industry and research) committee met on 25 June and, with a nod to the ongoing consultation, adopted conclusions on knowledge transfer and the use of intellectual property in a European Research Area (ERA).
The committee invited the European Commission to issue a voluntary charter on the use of intellectual property by public research institutions to promote European competitiveness by exploiting know-how better.
It also invited EU member states to implement Crest research funding guidelines voluntarily.
