Results of a new study, sponsored by the US Department of Health and Services, show that the combination of calcium and vitamin D supplements may offer some protection against weight gain.

More than 36,000 postmenopausal women between ages 50 and 79, who were already enrolled in the dietary modification and/or hormone therapy arms of the Women's Health Initiative clinical trial, were given either 1000mg of elemental calcium plus 400 IU of vitamin D or a placebo daily.
