Female role model looks to liberate librarians for business
Former librarian and now successful business owner Penny Bailey has been appointed women's enterprise advocate by the South East England Development Agency to act as a role model for other women in IT. Bailey will promote the benefits of women being in business. "I think women might be put off by the nerdy image, but in fact IT needs a range of business skills from programming, management, design and communication to customer services in order to create products and services that make a difference," Bailey said. "Library and information managers have many transferable skills and many may not be aware of the fact there are many career opportunities open to them beyond a library."
