The freedom to print
If a printer is hogging your desk or you're fed up with sharing one between multiple PCs, a wireless model could liberate you
No-one likes to feel tied down. So why settle for a printer that has to be plugged into a single computer at home? With a wireless printer, you call the shots. You can print from any wireless computer or device virtually anywhere in the home over a secure wireless network. Want to print a photo when you're halfway through a slideshow on the computer in the living room? No problem. And wouldn't it be handy to use your notebook PC to put together the weekly shopping list while you're in the kitchen, then print the whole thing out from there? You can even share the printer between computers without having a trail of cables snaking through your house or having to unplug everything and move the whole setup to another PC.
Choose the Lexmark Z1480 or X4580 and getting started with wireless printing couldn't be simpler, with a step-by-step quick-start guide to help you through the process. To make the most of the wireless potential of the Z1480 or X4580, you'll need an existing wireless home network -- or this may be just the reason you've been looking for to set one up. Once your printer is installed, any wireless-enabled computer within range of the network can send documents to it.
There's plenty of guidance in the accompanying user manual to help you install the printer, and both models are compatible with Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and Apple Mac.
The important thing to note is that you should install the software before even touching the printer itself. Take the CD for Windows out of the box and insert it into the CD drive of your PC. If you have more than one computer at home, install the printer first on the one closest to your wireless router, as you will be instructed to plug the printer into your computer (using the supplied cable) during setup. This is the one and only time that your printer will be physically connected to your network. These steps are covered in the workshop overleaf.
