Crist signs bill easing rules for condo takeovers.

"It smacks of eminent domain and terminates the contracts of every single condo in Florida," said Gayle Wardner, a Siesta Key condo owner who has led a fight against the legislation. "There will be major construction as a result of this, and people will be literally forced from their homes."

Currently, all condo owners in a complex must consent before a sale can occur. Under the new rule, sales can take place even if only four-fifths, or 80 percent, of owners agree.

Another provision states that 10 percent of a complex's unit owners can defeat a takeover plan by objecting in writing within 90 days.
