One of America's somewhat hidden treasures, composer, horn player, pianist, and teacher Jan Bach has long been due a tribute such as this. The program on this disc consists of five compositions: his brief and thrilling Gala Fanfare for orchestra; a four-movement French Suite for Unaccompanied Horn; a piece for saxophone and octet entitled Helix, a humorous but masterful four-part duet called Four Two-Bit Contraptions for Flute and Horn; and what is arguably his masterpiece, the complex and deeply rewarding Concerto for Horn and Orchestra.
