Terms Have Schools Paying Up Over Pool
City auditors have unearthed a 32-year-old contract that says Albuquerque Public Schools is supposed to be paying the city for each hour that students use the Valley High School swimming pool.
The contract was signed in 1965 and is valid through 2040 -- but no one in the city's Cultural and Recreational Services Department even knew it existed.
One employee, who's been with the department since 1973, said he was "unaware of any billings from the city to APS during the last 23 years," according to the audit released Thursday.
