Paul Wolfowitz will probably be most remembered as one of the Bush administration's top strategists who peddled the now-discredited intelligence that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction and had ties to al-Qaeda. Wolfowitz left the Pentagon in 2005 to head the World Bank, but on May 17, he announced his resignation effective June 30, after it was revealed that he had used his post to give his mistress, Shaha Ali Riza, a hefty pay raise. With help from her paramour, Riza, a World Bank Senior Communications Officer for the Middle East and North Africa Regional Office, reportedly received a $60,000 pay increase, taking her salary to $193,000 per year.

Like the Clinton-Lewinski scandal, most of the media ruckus has focused on the sex and lucre, while ignoring national security issues. Apparently, Wolfowitz intervened for Riza to get a security clearance for work at the State Department before she went to the World Bank. As ...
