Jun. 17--Although the graffiti has been removed, the recent desecration of Temple B'Nai Israel has not only its members in shock, but also members of the Victoria community. According to a police report, late Thursday night or early Friday morning swastikas, profanity and other anti-Semitic remarks were spray painted on the synagogue, located at 604 N. Main St.
"I grew up here in Victoria, and I have never before personally witnessed an act of this nature," said Mayor Will Armstrong in a statement to the press, noting that the Jewish community organized in Victoria in 1856 and the present synagogue was built in 1923.
