YOU GIRLS IN NEW ENGLAND AND THE MIDATLANTIC BATTLE SERIOUS HUMIDITY IN THE SUMMER. SO WE ROUNDED UP SOME NEW PRODUCTS (AND A FEW TRICKS!) TO GET YOU THROUGH THE SEASON LOOKING COOL EVEN WHEN YOU'RE HOT!
Makeup fades quickly in hot, humid weather. So New York City makeup artist Maria Forte suggests using a silicone-free primer (try Lorac AquaPrime Oil-Free Makeup Primer, $30, sephora.com). It gives makeup something to adhere to, and since it doesn't have silicone (a slippery ingredient) it stays put in humid weather.
Sharon Dorram Krause, head colorist at John Frieda Salon in New York City, says lots of her clients complain that their hair feels dry and brittle in the summer. Her fix? Once a week, break open a vitamin E capsule (vitamin E helps your hair repair itself), add it to a moisturizing conditioner, then use the conditioner as you normally would (try John Frieda Moisturizing Conditioner, available in five shades, left, $7, at drugstores).

You can't skip SPF just 'cause you live in the North. Dermatologist Michelle Gasorowski, of Greenwich, Connecticut, says that if sunblock irritates your skin, get one with the active ingredients zinc or titanium dioxide (try Ocean Potion Organics All Natural Sunblock, left, $9, at drugstores). They're less likely than others (like oxybenzone) to cause skin reactions.

For a sun-kissed eye look, lightly dust a soft bronze shadow on your brow bone rather than on your lids (try Prestige Eyeshadow in Champagne, $4, at drugstores). According to New Hope, Pennsylvania, makeup artist Jennifer Artur, applying bronze shadow to your lids can sometimes make your eye area look darker, but dusting it on your brow bone creates a pretty highlight that's less expected.
DIDJA KNOW?
75% OF GIRLS IN THE NORTHEAST SAY THEIR MAKEUP LOOK IS "NATURAL."
Your weather can be unpredictable, so Brian Brady, makeup director at Emerge by Giuliano, a Boston day spa, suggests having a lotion and cream version of the same moisturizer (try Dove Deep Moisture Day Lotion and Deep Moisture Day Cream, $8 each, at drugstores). When it's humid or hot, use the lighter lotion version. If it's windy or you have a sunburn (which can dry your skin), use the richer cream version.
Hot weather can make your face look and feel oilier. To degrease, makeup artist Maria Forte suggests lightly dabbing (not wiping!) your skin with a powderless oil-absorbing sheet (try Clean & Clear Morning Burst Oil Absorbing Sheets, $5, right, at drugstores). The sheets absorb better than papers, and they don't leave behind a layer of powder, which can get clumpy and messy in the heat.

Boston makeup artist Brian Brady says nude lip gloss is really popular with his clients, but he notices that they often choose beige gloss, thinking it looks the most natural. Instead, he suggests sheer pink shades (try DKNY Be Delicious Lip Shine Trio, $20, right, Sephora). No matter what color your skin is, your lips usually have pink undertones, so pink gloss looks the most natural.

Humid weather makes it almost impossible to change the texture of your hair (whether you straighten curls or curl straight hair, you'll end up with frizz). So colorist Jeffrey Blais of Akari, a spa in Portland, Maine, suggests choosing a style that works with your natural texture. Got straight hair? Try two low braids. Curls or waves? Go for a low, messy bun.
To get the most frizz-fighting power out of your styling products, use this application technique from Erin Anderson, co-owner of Woodley & Bunny Salon in Brooklyn, New York: Rub a nickel-sized blob of anti-frizz cream (try VO5 Perfectly Smooth Frizz Defense Creme, $4, at drugstores) between your hands for a few seconds. Starting at the back of your head, comb your fingers through your damp hair, working from tips to roots, and from the inner layers to the outer layers. When you get to your top layers, use the cream left on your palms to smooth over them.
