Griffin includes Ella Fitzgerald's favorite ballads
To the world Ella Fitzgerald was the First Lady of Jazz.
To Joan Griffin, Ella was an idol who could really swing.
"When I first started learning about jazz and experimenting with singing jazz, I listened to Ella's records. They really helped me to understand jazz vocalese," said Griffin, a veteran Albuquerque singer.
"Ella is close to my heart."
When Fitzgerald died last year, Griffin thought about honoring her in some humble way and about acknowledging her contributions to music.
