Jun. 10--An oil painting with a bird's-eye view of a spring shower over a gorgeous stretch of the Grand Canyon won the 2007 Prix de West Purchase Award on Saturday at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
The $28,000 oil-on-canvas landscape was painted by Sedona, Ariz., artist Curt Walters, who has exhibited work at the museum's annual Prix de West show for the past 10 years.
Walters' 36-by-36-inch painting, "Spring's Caprice," will be purchased by the museum to be part of its permanent collection. The artist also will receive a $5,000 cash prize and the Prix de West medallion.
