Jun. 7--The Palm Beach County heart wars accelerated Wednesday when Bethesda Memorial Hospital confirmed it has lured away one of the top cardiac surgeons of its longtime rival, Delray Medical Center.
Dr. Geoffrey Lynn, who handles more than 100 heart surgery cases a year at Delray, has agreed to become the lead heart surgeon at Boynton Beach-based Bethesda, which opens its new open-heart surgery program early next year.
Lynn will become a salaried employee at Bethesda with the title of director of cardiovascular surgery. Once the new heart program launches, it is expected he will no longer operate at Delray Medical, where he has practiced since 1997.
