The fact that Italian Renaissance art owes a great deal to Islamic culture has not received much notice until recently. According to Rosamond E. Mack in Bazaar to Piazza: Islamic Trade and Italian Art, 1300-1600, this may be due in part to the consistent focus of scholars on painting, sculpture, and architecture, fields in which Islamic influence is noticeable but not nearly so evident as in the decorative arts, where it becomes even more convincing when a variety of objects are considered together.
