Thomson Learning boss greets private equity with open arms
Mark Chillingworth
Tom Davy, CEO of Thomson Learning in Europe, has given the acquisition of Thomson Learning by venture capitalist Apax Partners an enthusiastic welcome, saying it's the best thing for the company and its content.
Davy said a venture capital firm was a better owner for the Thomson education division than a rival publishing company would have been.
He also denied that Apax's new acquisition, which includes library reference supplier Gale, would suffer from its expulsion from the Thomson empire.
"Most of the technology development has been done by Thomson Learning," Davy said. He added that once the Apax deal was complete, Thomson Learning would be powering on with its analysis of new business models.
