When you are pregnant, there are three questions you constantly hear: When are you due? What's the sex? Is this your first? I had no problem with the first two-I was having a boy; he was due in early September. It was the last that always made me stumble. Sometimes I'd lie. "Yes," I'd say, "this is my first." But mostly I told the truth. "I had a baby, but he died."
