Rebecca Lau, 24, who has been designing dazzlingly bold jewelry for two years, exclaims, "I love anything shiny!" She describes her work as "very sculptural and geometric"; recent creations are based on deconstructed concentric circles.
Lau studied fashion design at Parsons and FIT, where her classmates included the dynamic design duo Proenza Schouler-but the gold bug didn't really bite until she went to London and worked with the British jeweler Lara Bohinc. "Then I really got inspired," she says. Now she lives and works in a former chocolate factory on Manhattan's SoHo-Chinatown border, and makes frequent forays into the Diamond District in midtown for confabs with moldmakers and gem-setters.
