Josef Statkus, who was born Juozas Statkevicius, has always dreamed of designing clothes that would find their way into the closets of Hollywood starlets. "When I was a child, I used to look at photos of famous actresses for inspiration. These women seemed to live in a fantasy world that would never be attainable to me," says the long-locked 35-year-old, who began his fashion career working as the official hairdresser and stylist for the Parliament of Lithuania and designing costumes for his country's National Opera and Ballet Theatre. In the late nineties Statkus forged ahead toward his glamorous goal, making a loyal customer out of the first lady of Lithuania and showing his ready-to-wear collections during Paris couture.
