SEOUL, June 1 Asia Pulse - South Korean tax authorities are investigating Hyundai Motor Co. (KSE:005380), the nation's top automaker, and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp. (KSE:000270), as part of their investigation into a slush fund scandal surrounding the carmaker's Chairman Chung Mong-Koo, a Hyundai official said Friday.
"The National Tax Service has investigated Hyundai and Kia since April, and the investigation is nearing its final stage," said the official, who declined to be named, citing company policy.
Officials at the tax authorities declined to comment.
