CANBERRA, June 1 Asia Pulse - Prime Minister John Howard is expected to announce a national trading scheme in greenhouse gas emissions during the Liberal Party's three-day conference which begins today.
Network Ten reported Mr Howard will unveil in his closing address in Sydney on Sunday a scheme beginning in 2011 with a starting carbon price of $A20 ($US16.53) a tonne.
The prime minister also indicated this week that carbon trading would require the setting of a long-term emissions reduction target.
