May 17--EAST DENNIS -- "This Enforcement Order is issued by: Dennis Conservation Commission ... To: Town of Dennis Conservation Commission."

That's right. The commission has found itself at fault in a tree-cutting violation and now it's time to make amends.

The vexing problem is the town refuses to pony up $11,000 to plant 55 trees on the town-owned Whitfield Johnson property north of Route 6A where the violation occurred.

For the time being, the stalemate is good news for abutter Vincent Piro, who gets to keep his spectacular view of Sesuit Harbor. Construction on Piro's new 6,500-square-foot home there is nearing …
