May 18--The union for about 4,000 public-service workers in Monterey and San Benito counties is holding a block party Monday in Salinas to showcase its new internal organization.
Local members of Service Employees International Union now are represented by SEIU Local 521, which spans 17 counties and consolidates five former SEIU locals under the same umbrella.
"The reason is to provide better member services," said spokesman Jerry Jimenez.
