May 16--The Tri-City economy grew 1.9 percent in the past 12 months, thanks to agriculture, construction and the food processing industry, the state's regional economist reported Tuesday.
Agriculture and nonfarm sectors provided 2,500 new jobs in April and helped sustain the area's steady economic growth, though a marginal decline in professional and business jobs because of cuts in federal spending slowed the tempo, said Dean Schau, state regional economist.
The growth rate is a tad behind the state's 2.3 percent, but it shows healthy growth, Schau said.
