To help in its missions, ROAL in North Carolina has turned to an eager group of volunteers: middle school students organized as STAR, Student's Together Assisting ROAL. The group helps members of the community, city, state, and nation who are involved with the military and military families.

STAR originated at Mint Hill, N.C., Middle School in 2003 under the sponsorship of the Greensboro ROAL. A second STAR was formed in 2004 at Jay M. Robinson Middle School in Charlotte, N.C.

Mint Hill projects this year include signing a quilt that was sent to Camp Victory in Kuwait; collecting more than 100 pounds of pop-top tabs for Ronald McDonald House; presenting the…
