May 3--The State Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that former Bay County Property Appraiser Rick Barnett will not face criminal charges in connection to allegations in an anonymous complaint that he improperly lowered property values for prominent businessmen.
The announcement comes after a four-month investigation into the complaint by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The FDLE turned over its finding to the State Attorney's Office earlier this week.
"We have not received any criminal complaints upon which to act," State Attorney's Office spokesman Joe Grammer said.
Although it cleared him of criminal charges, FDLE's investigation found irregularities with the way Barnett's office handled property value adjustments in 2006, according to the 16-page summary report released Wednesday. It also shows that ...
