Apr. 29--State transportation officials nixed a proposal by city engineers to run the first leg of a planned regional greenway trail through a large culvert under Business 40.
The city was notified by the state earlier this month. This means that construction efforts that were supposed to start last year on the initial stretch of the Piedmont Regional Greenway between Winston-Salem and Kernersville could be delayed for several more years as city planners explore alternatives, said Alan Hine, an engineer with the city's recreation and parks department, who is responsible for getting that stretch of the trail built.
