Retailers Predict Record Cargo Volumes: The National Retail Federation and Global Insight have a message for shipping interests serving U.S. container ports this year: Get ready for the crush, and, more important, plan ahead. The NRF and Global Insight note in their latest Port Tracker newsletter that container volumes are growing rapidly and will likely set a U.S. monthly record in July - just nine months after setting the previous record during last year's peak shipping season. "This is going to be a very busy summer at the ports, and it's important to keep those goods moving toward the store shelves," said Eric Autor, the NRF's vice president and international trade counsel.
