AstraZeneca Plc. announced the October 20 Food and Drug Administration approval of Seroquel (quetiapine fumarate) to be marketed as a treatment for bipolar depression, reported Reuters (Oct. 20). Classified as an atypical antipsychotic medication, Seroquel was already approved for the treatment of acute manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder and for the treatment of schizophrenia.
