Smyth County Community Hospital announces nine layoffs.

Apr. 25--Nine people will be laid off today at Smyth County Community Hospital as part of a restructuring move.

Twenty-eight management and clerical positions are affected by the changes, said Lindy White, the hospital's chief executive officer.

Of those, 12 are retiring and seven will be reassigned to other positions within Mountain States Health Alliance.

The other nine can apply for other jobs within the system, White said.

The 154-bed hospital, which joined the Mountain States system last year, employes more than 600 people.
