Apr. 26--TIPP CITY -- City officials say they have stretched available dollars as far as they will go while delaying an increasing number of capital projects.

To raise more money, the city is asking voters on May 8 to increase the base income tax rate of 1 percent for the first time in 25 years. The tax increase is the only issue on the ballot in Tipp City.

"We pushed it off for as long as we realistically could. We need to address it now for the benefit of the community," City Manager David Collinsworth said.

The 0.25 percent permanent increase would generate $825,000 in its first year of collection in 2008.
